The launch of the Sheapark Resource Hub Project in Ghana is expected to positively impact the agricultural and agro-industrial sectors by promoting value addition to shea and related commodities. This initiative aims to create jobs, increase incomes, and enhance Ghana's export capacity, particularly benefiting women in the Upper West Region.
President John Mahama launched the Sheapark Resource Hub Project in Wa, Ghana, on January 31, 2026. This initiative, driven by Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin and Professor Kwame Addo, aims to transform Ghana's shea industry through value addition and agro-industrial development. The hub will feature modern processing units for cosmetics, food, nutraceuticals, and pharmaceuticals, along with quality control labs, training centers, and logistics facilities. It is expected to empower over 7,000 women and create thousands of youth jobs in the Upper West Region. The project aligns with Ghana's Reset Agenda, Big Push, and 24-Hour Economy Initiative, focusing on domestic value addition before export for various commodities. President Mahama also announced the distribution of protective gear for shea pickers and plans for a Women's Bank to provide financial assistance. Wa Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV supported the project by declaring the felling of shea trees a criminal offense.
