The selection of 10 companies for the BHP Xplor program is expected to have a positive impact on the mining and technology markets by fostering innovation in mineral exploration. This initiative could lead to new discoveries of future-facing commodities, benefiting BHP and the participating companies.
BHP has announced the selection of 10 early-stage exploration and technology companies for its 2026 BHP Xplor program, marking the largest cohort since its inception. The program, now in its fourth year, aims to advance early-stage mineral exploration by bringing together junior exploration companies, geoscience organizations, and technology teams. Each selected company will receive an equity-free grant of USD $500,000, along with structured learning, mentoring, and access to BHP specialists. The cohort includes exploration companies like FrontierX (uranium in Canada), Litchfield Minerals (copper, zinc, lead, silver, gold in Australia), Orion Minerals (copper, zinc in South Africa), Otrera Resources (copper in South America), and PT GeoFix Indonesia (copper-gold in Southeast Asia), as well as the United States===Utah Geological Survey. Technology companies such as RadiXplore (AI for exploration in Australia), Mineural (AI for target identification in Canada), VectOres Science (hydrogeochemical tools in USA), and Discovery Genomics (DNA sequencing for exploration in Canada) are also part of the program. This initiative reflects a connected approach to exploration, integrating geological insight, data, and emerging technologies to understand, test, and advance mineral systems in complex environments.
