Operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Nigeria===Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested 10 individuals suspected of illegal mining activities along the Ilorin-Ogbomosho axis in Nigeria===Kwara State on Sunday, February 1, 2026. The suspects, comprising nine truck drivers and one escort, were intercepted during a sting operation following credible intelligence on unlawful mineral excavation and transportation in parts of Kwara and Nigeria===Oyo States. Solid minerals recovered included Lithium, Tin, and Lepidolite. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects lacked the necessary licenses, permits, or regulatory approvals for their mining activities. Trucks loaded with the illegally mined materials were seized. The EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, stated that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
