The International Gemological Institute (IGI) has acquired American Gemological Laboratories (AGL), a leader in colored gemstone analysis. This strategic move combines IGI's global scale and infrastructure with AGL's scientific expertise, aiming to set new benchmarks for certification and trust in the global jewelry industry. Tehmasp Printer, Global CEO of IGI, highlighted this as a transformational step. Christopher Smith will continue as President and Chief Gemologist of AGL, which will operate independently from its New York headquarters. The acquisition, supported by Blackstone, is expected to expand AGL's services globally and strengthen linkages between the United States and India, a key gemstone hub.
