This integration significantly bridges traditional finance and crypto markets by allowing users to manage tokenized US stocks and ETFs alongside cryptocurrencies in a single self-custodial wallet. It is expected to increase the adoption of tokenized real-world assets and potentially drive demand for the underlying blockchain infrastructure, particularly Ethereum.
Consensys===MetaMask, in partnership with Ondo Finance, has integrated tokenized US stocks, ETFs, and commodities into its mobile wallet. This allows eligible non-US users to buy and hold over 200 tokenized securities, including shares of Tesla, NVIDIA, Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon, as well as ETFs like QQQ, SLV, and IAU, directly within Consensys===MetaMask. The integration, unveiled at the Ondo Global Summit, enables users to gain exposure to these assets without needing a traditional brokerage account, using USDC on the Ethereum mainnet for transactions. Trading operates 24/5, with tokens transferable at all times. This move expands Consensys===MetaMask's role beyond crypto storage, offering a unified interface for digital and traditional market exposure, and positions Ondo Finance to reach a broader user base. The service is restricted in several regions, including the United States, Canada, the European Economic Area, China, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Russia, due to regulatory limitations. Joseph Lubin, CEO of Consensys, emphasized that this integration represents a step away from legacy financial systems towards a more flexible and user-controlled model.
