India's Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced that the nation's strategic petroleum reserves currently hold enough crude oil to last 74 days. While this provides a good buffer against global supply disruptions, Puri indicated that India aims to increase these reserves further to meet international norms, such as the International Energy Agency's recommendation of 90 days. The reserves are managed by Strategic Petroleum Reserve (India) (ISPRL), a government-owned company under the India===Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. ISPRL operates three underground rock caverns in Visakhapatnam, Mangaluru, and Padur, with a total capacity of 5.33 million tonnes. New facilities are planned for Chandikhol and Padur, with additional proposed sites at Bikaner and Bina, as India works towards enhancing its energy security.
