This non-binding MoU between PLS (company) and Mangrove Lithium is expected to positively impact the lithium market by strengthening the North American battery supply chain. It provides PLS (company) with a stable, local offtake partner and Mangrove Lithium with a secure source of raw material, reducing reliance on overseas processing and potentially lowering logistics costs.
PLS (company), a North American lithium producer, has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mangrove Lithium to supply up to 144,000 tonnes per year of spodumene concentrate from its Sayona Mining===North American Lithium (NAL) project. The supply, commencing in 2028 and ramping up by 2030, will be for an initial five-year period at market-related prices with floor and ceiling mechanisms. Mangrove Lithium intends to process the concentrate in Eastern Canada into battery-grade lithium hydroxide, supporting Canada's goal of establishing a domestic battery supply chain. This collaboration is seen as a strategic move to improve cost efficiency for PLS (company) and enhance supply chain security for Mangrove Lithium, which recently secured US$85 million in financing. The definitive agreement is contingent on Mangrove Lithium's final investment decision for its conversion facility by June 2027.
