Nigeria-US Deepen Security Cooperation

Nigeria and the United States have significantly deepened their security cooperation following a high-level visit by General Michael Anderson, Commander of the United States===United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), to Abuja on February 8-9. Discussions involved President Bola Tinubu and top Nigerian security officials, focusing on shared security interests, counter-terrorism efforts, intelligence sharing, and regional security. Both nations reviewed existing cooperation and identified new areas for collaboration, including joint military exercises, training, and advanced technological support. General Anderson also toured the joint US-Nigeria intelligence fusion cell in Abuja, which supports Nigeria's intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance operations. This renewed engagement aims to strengthen Nigeria's security architecture and independent operational capabilities amid growing security concerns like insurgency and transnational terrorism.
