Owo Church Attack Trial Witness Identifies Suspect

The trial of four men accused of the June 5, 2022, attack on St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, Nigeria, is ongoing at the Federal High Court in Abuja. A witness from the Nigeria===Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun), identified as SSG, testified that he engaged in a gun battle with one of the defendants, Al-Qasim Idris, and later identified him in court. SSG also detailed the pursuit of the attackers, the recovery of their vehicle, and the discovery of 35 corpses at the church. Another prosecution witness had previously identified Al-Qasim Idris and Abdulhaleem Idris. A pathologist, SSF, also testified, confirming that the victims died of gunshot wounds. The Nigeria===State Security Service (Nigeria) is prosecuting the defendants for alleged terrorism offenses.
