Nigeria Strengthens Safe Schools Initiative

The Nigeria===Politics of Nigeria has announced a comprehensive plan to strengthen the Safe Schools Initiative, in collaboration with the Nigeria===Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. This move comes after a nationwide vulnerability assessment by the Nigeria===Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps revealed that over 60,000 of Nigeria's 81,000 schools lack adequate security infrastructure. Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, stated that the government has zero tolerance for school attacks and will move from reactive responses to a continuous security presence. A dedicated Safe Schools department is being established within the Nigeria===Federal Ministry of Education to coordinate national efforts, and technology-driven alert mechanisms will be introduced. The Nigeria===Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, led by Commandant-General Ahmed Audi, has been designated as the lead agency for school protection and has already prevented over 110 security threats. The government is also exploring sustainable financing options to ensure continuous funding for school security, addressing past challenges of inadequate resource allocation.
