Nigeria Reaffirms Liberia Security Commitment

Nigeria's Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, attended Liberia's 69th Armed Forces Day Anniversary, reaffirming Nigeria's strategic leadership in West African peace and security. He emphasized Nigeria's pivotal role in halting state collapse and preserving Liberia's sovereignty during its civil conflict, primarily through the ECOWAS Monitoring Group (ECOMOG). Nigeria provided significant troops, resources, and political will, laying the foundation for Liberia's national reconciliation and democratic transition. Lt-Gen. Shaibu also highlighted Nigeria's contribution to rebuilding the Liberia===Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) and its ongoing advisory and capacity-building support. He urged the AFL to maintain professionalism and loyalty to constitutional authority and advocated for robust inter-agency synergy against contemporary threats like drug trafficking and cybercrime. The event underscored the strong defense relationship between Nigeria and Liberia, anchored on shared sacrifice and strategic trust. Two Nigerian Army officers were decorated with the Distinguished Service Order of Liberia, symbolizing the deep-rooted partnership.
