The full operational capacity of Dangote refinery is a significant positive for the Nigerian economy, expected to save billions in foreign exchange and strengthen the naira. It will also stabilize fuel supply and reduce price volatility, boosting investor confidence in Nigeria's energy sector.
Dangote refinery has achieved its full designed capacity of 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day, a historic milestone making it the first refinery globally to reach this scale in a single train. This follows the optimization of its Crude Distillation Unit and Motor Spirit production block. The refinery has commenced intensive 72-hour performance test runs with Honeywell===UOP to validate operational efficiency. David Bird, CEO of Dangote refinery, stated that the plant is on track to deliver consistent, world-class output, transforming Nigeria's energy landscape and eliminating import dependence. The refinery supplied 45-50 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit daily during the festive period and can now deliver up to 75 million litres daily. This development is expected to save Nigeria up to $10 billion annually in foreign exchange, create jobs, strengthen the naira, and enhance regional energy security. Aliko Dangote also announced plans to expand the facility's capacity to 1.4 million bpd, potentially making it the world's largest.
