The market impact is generally positive for consumers in India, as the ruling by the India===Competition Commission of India promotes fair competition and consumer choice in the semiconductor market. For Intel, there is a negative impact due to the penalty and the forced change in its warranty policy, which could affect its market strategy in India.

The India===Competition Commission of India (CCI) imposed a penalty of Rs 27.38 crore on Intel for abusing its dominant position in the market for Boxed Micro Processors (BMPs) for desktops in India. The case originated from a complaint filed by Matrix Info Systems Private Limited, alleging that Intel's India-specific warranty policy, implemented in April 2016, was discriminatory. This policy only entertained warranty requests for BMPs purchased from authorized Indian distributors, unlike Intel's worldwide warranty policies in other regions like China and Australia. The CCI found that this policy limited consumer choice and parallel imports, causing an appreciable adverse effect on Indian consumers. While the penalty was initially calculated at 8% of Intel's average relevant turnover over eight years, it was reduced due to mitigating factors, including Intel's discontinuation of the policy effective April 1, 2024. Intel has also been directed to publicize the withdrawal of the policy and submit a compliance report.
