The successful achievement of first oil by Petralon Energy, coupled with Shell plc===Shell Western Supply and Trading's confidence, boosts investor sentiment in indigenous Nigerian oil and gas operators. This development is positive for Nigeria's national oil output targets and the broader energy sector.
Petralon Energy, an indigenous Nigerian exploration and production company, has achieved first oil at the Dawes Island Field, a significant milestone for Nigeria's marginal field program. Shell plc===Shell Western Supply and Trading, a co-financier and crude offtaker, expressed strong confidence in Petralon Energy's operational capacity and leadership. Since receiving its license in June 2022, Petralon Energy has rapidly progressed from development to drilling and production, bringing the DI-2 well on stream and evacuating 158,000 barrels of crude. The company has also drilled the DI-3 well to total depth and plans to bring it on stream soon, with a fourth well planned for later this year. This success is seen as an encouraging development for Nigeria, which increasingly relies on indigenous operators to maintain national output amidst international oil company divestments.
