The launch of WAEC DigiCert is expected to positively impact the education technology market in West Africa by promoting digital solutions for certificate management. It will also enhance the efficiency and authenticity of academic credentials, potentially reducing fraud and administrative costs for educational institutions and employers.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has fully implemented its Digital Certificate Services System, WAEC DigiCert, across its five member countries: The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone. Announced by Demianus G. Ojijeogu, Head of Public Affairs, the mobile and web-based application simplifies access to certificates for candidates and stakeholders. Users can access, request, confirm, and share digital versions of their original certificates, and even recover lost WAEC examination numbers. The system guarantees authenticity, offers cost benefits, and received positive feedback during its pilot phase in Nigeria. WAEC assures that this innovation will not replace the conventional printing of physical certificates. The WAEC DigiCert mobile application is available on the App Store and Google Play Store.
