The launch of Bharat-VISTAAR is expected to have a positive impact on the agricultural sector in India by empowering farmers with real-time information and advisory services. This could lead to increased productivity, reduced risks, and higher profitability for over 140 million farmers, potentially boosting the overall agricultural economy.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched Bharat-VISTAAR, an AI-powered multilingual digital platform, at the AI Impact Summit 2026. Announced earlier by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Union Budget 2026-27 with an allocation of ₹150 crore, this service aims to provide real-time, personalized agricultural advisory to over 140 million farmers in India. Bharat-VISTAAR integrates data from AgriStack portals, India===Indian Council of Agricultural Research practices, India===India Meteorological Department weather data, India===Agmarknet market prices, government schemes, soil health, and India===National Pest Surveillance System pest alerts into a unified, voice-first ecosystem. Farmers can access the service 24/7 via a dedicated helpline (155261) using the Bharati AI assistant, website, or a mobile app, available in 22+ regional Indian languages. The initiative is designed to close the digital divide in rural and low-literacy areas, promoting better decision-making, risk reduction, higher profitability, and sustainable practices. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma hailed it as a farmers' revolution.
