Afenifere Warns of Insecurity in Yorubaland

The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has raised alarm over the escalating terrorist attacks and kidnappings in states bordering Nigeria's South-West, including Nigeria===Kwara State, Nigeria===Kogi State, and Nigeria===Niger State, as well as recent incidents in Nigeria===Ondo State, Nigeria===Ekiti State, and Nigeria===Oyo State. These events, including the killing of nearly 200 people in Nigeria===Kwara State's Woro and Nuku communities and the abduction of a schoolgirl in Ibadan, indicate that terror acts are no longer confined to rural areas but are spreading to urban centers. Afenifere, through its National Publicity Secretary Jare Ajayi, has urged governors of the affected states, including Nigeria===Oyo State, Nigeria===Ogun State, Osun_State, Nigeria===Ekiti State, Nigeria===Ondo State, Nigeria===Lagos State, Nigeria===Kwara State, Nigeria===Kogi State, Nigeria===Edo State, and Nigeria===Delta State, to implement robust security arrangements. The organization criticized the lack of effective utilization of intelligence and the alleged collusion of some officials with 'enemies of the people,' citing instances like the alleged diversion of funds by former National Security Adviser Colonel Dasuki and former Accountant General of the Federation Mr. Chukwunyere Anamekwe Nwabuoku, who is being prosecuted by the Nigeria===Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Afenifere also condemned 'Peace Pacts' with bandits, exemplified by Nigeria===Katsina State, as ineffective. The group advocates for immediate establishment of state police and local security arrangements.
