The launch of Walmart===PhonePe's AI-powered feature is expected to positively impact the digital payments market in India by increasing accessibility and user engagement. This innovation, supported by Microsoft, could drive further adoption of AI in fintech, potentially leading to increased competition and innovation across the industry.
Walmart===PhonePe, a leading digital payments platform, has launched an AI-powered natural language search feature built using Microsoft Foundry. This new feature allows users in India to navigate the app, make payments, and track transactions using simple voice or text commands, replacing traditional menu-based navigation with intent-based routing. The system interprets user intent for various tasks like making payments, completing purchases, or seeking support. The feature operates on a hybrid model combining on-device and cloud inferencing, ensuring privacy and security. Rahul Chari, Walmart===PhonePe's CTO, highlighted the shift towards more intelligent, user-centric platforms, aiming to make payments accessible to every Indian. Puneet Chandok of Microsoft noted the growing adoption of natural language interfaces in India and Microsoft's commitment to supporting the digital ecosystem. The rollout will occur in phases across India, accessible via the app's Global Search Bar, Help Center, and History tab.
