Rahul Gandhi Furnishes New Surety in Defamation Case

Rahul Gandhi, a leader of the India===Indian National Congress, appeared before the Bhiwandi magistrate's court to furnish a new surety in a 2014 defamation case. The case was filed by Rajesh Kunte, an activist of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), who alleged that Rahul Gandhi's statement linking the RSS to Mahatma Gandhi's assassination was defamatory. Harshwardhan Sapkal, the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president, became the new guarantor for Rahul Gandhi, replacing the deceased Shivraj Patil Chakurkar. The court granted Rahul Gandhi permanent exemption from personal appearance in future hearings, with the next hearing scheduled for April 4. During his travel, Rahul Gandhi faced protests from India===Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists. Later, he met with India===Indian National Congress leaders in Mumbai to discuss the party's poor performance in recent civic polls.
