The new emission standards are expected to increase operational costs for affected industries in the Delhi-NCR region, potentially impacting their profitability and stock performance. However, the long-term benefits of improved air quality could lead to a more stable and healthier business environment.
The India===Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas has issued Statutory Direction No. 98, mandating a stricter particulate matter (PM) emission limit of 50 mg/Nm³ for identified industries across the Delhi-NCR. This revised standard, based on recommendations from the India===Central Pollution Control Board and studies by the IIT Kanpur, aims to significantly reduce industrial stack emissions and improve air quality. The new norms will apply to 17 categories of highly polluting industries, red category (medium and large) air-polluting industries, food and food processing, textile industries with boilers/thermic fluid heaters, and metal industries with furnaces. The implementation will be phased, with large and medium industries complying by August 1, 2026, and other targeted industries by October 1, 2026. Governments of India===Delhi, India===Haryana, India===Uttar Pradesh, and India===Rajasthan, along with their respective pollution control bodies, are directed to ensure strict implementation and public awareness.
