The grant agreement between the African Development Bank and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture is expected to positively impact agricultural markets across Africa by boosting food production and resilience to climate shocks. This initiative will enhance food security and potentially reduce import dependence in beneficiary nations like Nigeria, Sudan, Ethiopia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

The African Development Bank and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture have signed a $16.61 million grant agreement to launch the third phase of the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation Programme (TAAT-III). This program aims to scale climate-resilient food production across Africa by deploying proven technologies, strengthening seed systems, and expanding partnerships among research institutions, governments, and private sector actors. Since its launch in 2018, TAAT has reached nearly 25 million farmers, boosting productivity and expanding climate-resilient practices across over 35 million hectares. Countries such as Nigeria, Sudan, Ethiopia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe have seen significant gains in staple crop productivity. The new phase, financed through the African Development Fund, will focus on faster scaling of innovation, a more sustainable private sector-driven delivery model, and reaching an additional 14 million farmers across 37 low-income and vulnerable countries.
