Cross River State Suspends Scrap Activities

The Government of Nigeria===Cross River State, led by Governor Bassey Otu, has announced an immediate six-month suspension of all scrap-related activities, including trading, scavenging, and transportation, across the state. This decision was made in response to an alarming increase in vandalism, theft, and destruction of public infrastructure, such as utilities, road installations, and community facilities. Investigations, as stated by Attorney-General Ededem Charles Ani, have linked these destructive acts directly to scrap dealers and scavengers. The government is also undertaking a comprehensive review of existing laws and regulatory frameworks governing scrap operations to address the issue long-term. Law enforcement agencies have been mandated to ensure strict compliance with the suspension.
