In response, the India===Meghalaya government, under Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, has approved a Rs 25-crore five-year mission-mode program to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS. Additionally, the India===National AIDS Control Organisation has sanctioned Rs 17.8 crore to the India===Meghalaya AIDS Control Society for 2025-26 to bolster ongoing interventions. Challenges include confidentiality provisions under the HIV and AIDS (Prevention and Control) Act and social stigma, which hinder testing and treatment uptake. The state is intensifying awareness campaigns and expanding testing and treatment infrastructure, including 392 Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres and four mobile ICTCs.
