China Concludes Major Telecom Fraud Trials

Chinese courts, led by the China===Supreme People s Court, have concluded trials for two major telecom and online fraud groups based in northern Myanmar. By the end of 2025, over 27,000 first-instance cases related to northern Myanmar telecom fraud were concluded, with more than 41,000 suspects sentenced. Notably, the Ming and Bai groups, part of the 'four major families' criminal gangs, have completed all judicial proceedings, resulting in 39 individuals receiving life imprisonment or heavier penalties, including 16 death sentences. This action has effectively dismantled these cross-border armed criminal rings, delivering a significant blow to criminal elements. From 2021 to 2025, Chinese courts concluded over 159,000 first-instance cases of telecom and online fraud, sentencing more than 338,000 defendants, with a notable slowdown in growth rate in 2025, indicating the effectiveness of judicial efforts.
