The market is positively impacted by Coal India's assurance of ample coal supply, which mitigates concerns about potential power shortages in India during the summer. This stability in domestic coal availability could also lead to a reduction in coal imports, influencing international coal prices.
Coal India Limited (CIL) has announced its readiness to meet the anticipated surge in coal demand during the upcoming summer season in India. The company has established a three-tier buffer system, including 115 million tonnes (MT) of pithead stock, nearly 55 MT at domestic thermal power plants, and 5.5 MT in transit, totaling approximately 175.5 MT of readily available coal. Additionally, 60.2 MT of in-situ coal has been exposed and is ready for extraction. This robust supply chain is expected to comfortably meet the increased electricity demand driven by higher use of air conditioners and irrigation pumps. CIL's proactive measures aim to ensure grid stability, prevent outages, and potentially reduce India's reliance on coal imports, especially as international coal prices have firmed up.
