The call for India and China to view each other as partners rather than rivals, coupled with renewed diplomatic engagements, is expected to positively impact bilateral trade and investment. This shift towards cooperation could lead to increased economic stability and growth in Asia, benefiting both nations' markets.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, speaking at the China===National People s Congress, urged India and China to consider each other as partners and opportunities, rather than rivals or threats. He highlighted improved ties following recent meetings between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping in Kazan (2024) and Tianjin (2025). These diplomatic efforts have led to re-energized interactions, a new record in bilateral trade, and closer people-to-people exchanges. Both nations have resumed visa and flight services and initiated measures to normalize relations, which had been frozen for five years due to a military standoff in eastern Ladakh. Wang Yi also emphasized the importance of upholding good-neighborliness, safeguarding border stability, focusing on development, and supporting each other's BRICS presidencies. The BRICS alliance, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran, is seen as crucial for cooperation and bringing new hope to the Global South.
