The launch of NXP Semiconductors' i.MX 93W processor is expected to positively impact the semiconductor and AI markets by accelerating the deployment of physical AI. This innovation could drive demand for NXP Semiconductors' products and potentially influence the competitive landscape in edge computing.
NXP Semiconductors N.V. announced the i.MX 93W applications processor, an expansion of its i.MX 93 family. This new SoC is designed to accelerate physical AI deployment by combining a dedicated AI neural processing unit (NPU) with secure tri-radio wireless connectivity in a single package. This integration replaces up to 60 discrete components, reducing complexity, cost, and design time for customers. The i.MX 93W supports coordinated AI agents for real-time actions in various environments like smart buildings and healthcare. It features a dual-core Arm Cortex-A55 processor and an Arm Ethos NPU, along with integrated Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth Low Energy, and 802.15.4 connectivity. The processor also includes an EdgeLock Secure Enclave to address regulatory requirements like the European Cyber Resilience Act. Pre-certified reference designs are provided to further speed up time-to-market. Sampling for the i.MX 93W is expected in the second half of 2026.
