Capitec Bank, in collaboration with the South Africa===Department of Home Affairs (South Africa), has initiated an in-branch Smart ID service at select locations, including Bloemfontein Plaza, with plans to expand to 100 branches by mid-2026. This service allows clients to apply for a Smart ID using a Self-Service Terminal without prior booking, streamlining the application process. Minister of Home Affairs, Leon Schreiber, highlighted that over 4.4 million South Africans lack proper identification, which hinders their access to employment, banking, and voting. Capitec Bank CEO Graham Lee emphasized that this initiative aims to simplify access and support economic participation, leveraging Capitec Bank's extensive reach and technology to serve a significant portion of South Africa's adult population.
