The waivers by India===Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority are expected to positively impact Indian exporters by reducing financial burdens from stranded containers, thereby supporting India's export supply chains. This move aims to mitigate the negative economic effects of geopolitical disruptions in West Asia.
The India===Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has announced significant waivers on port charges for export containers bound for West Asia that are currently stranded at its terminals. This includes a 100% waiver on ground rent/dwell time charges and an 80% waiver on reefer plug-in charges for up to 15 days, from February 28 to March 14, 2026. These measures follow directives from the India===Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and aim to alleviate the financial strain on exporters caused by geopolitical disruptions in West Asia. JNPA is also providing additional storage areas and coordinating with customs authorities to facilitate temporary transshipment of cargo. Terminal operators like DP World, PSA International, APM Terminals, and JM Baxi are expected to implement these waivers, with JNPA ensuring benefits are passed to actual exporters.
