Western Cape receives FMD vaccine boost

The South Africa===Western Cape has received an additional 100,000 doses of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccine, bringing the total to 162,120 doses. This shipment, which arrived at Cape Town International Airport, will be distributed across the West Coast, Cape Winelands, and Garden Route districts. The South Africa===Western Cape government, led by Premier Alan Winde and Minister Ivan Meyer, is intensifying its efforts to combat the FMD outbreak through a 21-point response plan. This plan includes vaccination drives, movement control measures, border monitoring, and surveillance. Key agricultural stakeholders such as the Milk Producers Organisation, Red Meat Producers Organisation, Milk SA, Agri Western Cape, and Shoprite Holdings Ltd are supporting these efforts. The aim is to fully immunize the provincial herd, protect the agricultural sector, and ensure the stability of the regional economy. Premier Winde is also in contact with national Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen to implement a livestock movement permitting system.
