UNILAG ASUU Strike Over Unpaid Salaries

The University of Lagos (University of Lagos) is facing an industrial action declared by its chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (Academic Staff Union of Universities) over alleged unpaid January and February salaries and allowances, including the Consolidated Salary Structure for Academics, Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance, and Professorial Allowance. Prof. Idowu Kehinde, chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, University of Lagos chapter, stated that lecturers would not return to work until payments are settled. The University of Lagos management, through Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, Head of Communication, has rebuked the union for not following due process in declaring the strike and assured students that ongoing examinations will proceed as scheduled. Discussions between the University of Lagos management and the Academic Staff Union of Universities executive are ongoing to resolve the issues.
