Six French soldiers were wounded in a drone attack in the Erbil region of Iraq while providing counter-terrorism training. This incident occurred shortly after an Italian military base in the same area was also targeted by a drone, which Italy's Defense Minister Guido Crosetto confirmed was a deliberate attack by an Iranian-made Shahed drone. Iraqi Shi'ite militants have reportedly increased drone and missile attacks on U.S. interests in Iraq. France is deploying naval assets to the Mediterranean, Red Sea, and potentially the Strait of Hormuz in response to Middle East conflicts. The Governor of Erbil, Omed Khoshnaw, stated that two drones targeted a joint base of Peshmerga forces and French troops in the Makhmour district.
