X (social network) Policy on AI War Disinformation

X (social network) has announced a new policy to combat the surge of AI-generated disinformation related to the Middle East war. The policy states that creators posting AI-generated war videos without disclosure will be suspended from the revenue sharing program for 90 days, with subsequent violations leading to permanent suspension. This move comes after X (social network) faced heavy criticism for becoming a haven of disinformation since its acquisition by Elon Musk in October 2022. Despite the new policy, disinformation researchers remain skeptical about its effectiveness, noting that AI-generated content about the war continues to flood feeds. Concerns also exist about X (social network)'s own AI chatbot, Grok, which has wrongly identified AI visuals as real, and reports from the Tech Transparency Project suggesting X (social network) profited from accounts linked to Iranian government officials, potentially violating US sanctions.
