This collaboration signifies a positive step for Ethiopia's emerging capital market, potentially increasing investor confidence and attracting foreign investment. For Nigeria, it reinforces its position as a leader in financial regulation within Africa, potentially boosting its influence and expertise export.
Officials from Ethiopia, led by Ambassador Legesse Geremew Haile, visited Nigeria's Nigeria===Investments and Securities Tribunal (IST) to learn about its legal framework for resolving capital market disputes. Ethiopia is in the process of developing its own capital market system, including the Ethiopian Exchange and Capital Market Administration, and seeks to establish robust investor protection mechanisms. The IST Chairman, Aminu Jinaidu, assured Ethiopia of Nigeria's readiness to share its experience and support the development of Ethiopia's capital market. A Memorandum of Understanding is expected to be signed between the two entities, fostering greater collaboration and Pan-Africanism, especially in the context of the African Continental Free Trade Area.
