The Food Industry Research and Development Institute (FIRDI) in Taiwan, with support from Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation and Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), hosted a two-day Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Workshop on Discovering Innovative Food Processing Technologies to Cultivate a Low-Carbon Food Supply Chain in Taipei. The workshop, held on March 18-19, brought together representatives from eleven Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation economies, including Chinese Taipei, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Peru, the United States, Australia, the Philippines, and Papua New Guinea. The event aimed to strengthen regional collaboration and accelerate the development of sustainable, low-carbon food supply chains in response to escalating climate risks and global food security challenges. Speakers from Taiwan, including Dr. Ying-Chih Liao of MOEA and Mark Hsieh of Food Industry Research and Development Institute, emphasized the importance of cross-disciplinary technologies and innovation. Several Taiwanese companies, such as Gau Jiann, Lian Hwa Foods, Vigor Dong Shih, Jiamei, AGV Group, Yongzheng Emperor, Grape King Bio, and Preferrtech-Bio, showcased practical applications of low-carbon technologies, including smart processing systems, circular economy practices, and alternative protein development.
