The expansion of the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) framework by the India===Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is expected to significantly boost domestic solar manufacturing in India, reducing reliance on imports and strengthening local supply chains. This move will likely create new investment opportunities in the Indian solar sector, particularly for companies involved in ingot and wafer production.
The India===Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in India has expanded its Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) framework to include solar ingots and wafers, effective June 1, 2028. This regulatory change mandates that solar projects covered under the framework must source these components from approved domestic manufacturers. The move aims to strengthen India's local solar manufacturing ecosystem, reduce import dependence, and enhance quality across the solar value chain. The ALMM List-III for wafers will be issued once at least three independent wafer manufacturing facilities with a combined annual capacity of 15 GW are operational in India. This initiative aligns with India's broader goal of self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and its target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.
