Pakistan Military Accused of Human Rights Abuses

Pashtun human rights defender Fazlur Rahman Afridi, speaking at the 61st session of the International===United Nations Human Rights Council, has accused Pakistan's military establishment of widespread human rights violations in Pakistan===Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan===Balochistan. He claims thousands of military operations have led to civilian casualties, enforced disappearances, and mass displacement. Afridi also highlighted worsening security in Pakistan===Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to escalating tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan's Taliban authorities, including alleged illegal cross-border strikes resulting in civilian deaths. He described the rise in enforced disappearances of Pashtun and Baloch individuals as an ongoing genocide and called for an international investigation and accountability for Pakistan's military establishment. Afridi also urged the repeal of the Action in Aid of Civil Power Ordinance, which he argues grants the military sweeping powers and undermines civil liberties.
