Vice President Kashim Shettima officially launched Africa's first University Innovation Pods (UniPods) at the University of Lagos, an initiative by the International===United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the federal government of Nigeria. The UniPods aim to transform Nigerian universities into Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovation and digital talent hubs, addressing the disconnect between formal education and labor market outcomes. The program will provide structured platforms within universities for ideas to be developed, tested, financed, and translated into viable enterprises. The rollout begins with an AI Pod at the University of Lagos, with plans to expand to over 50 universities nationwide, reaching more than 500,000 learners with advanced digital and AI skills, and supporting 1,500-2,000 startups. This initiative, operationalized under the National Innovation and Digital Transformation Partnership Programme (NIDTPP) with the Nigeria===Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), is part of President Bola Tinubu's 'Renewed Hope Agenda' and seeks to position Nigeria as a continental leader in building a knowledge-driven economy and a hub for digital talent.
