The Indian government's proactive measures to diversify energy and fertilizer sources, coupled with efforts to stabilize prices of essential commodities, are expected to mitigate the negative market impact of the West Asia conflict on India. This aims to ensure supply chain stability and protect the domestic economy from global disruptions.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a special meeting of the India===Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to review India's preparedness and response to the ongoing West Asia conflict. This was the second such meeting, focusing on safeguarding citizens and ensuring the uninterrupted supply of essential commodities like fuel and fertilizers. The CCS discussed diversifying sources for Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and Liquefied natural gas (LNG), maintaining urea production, and coordinating with overseas suppliers for Di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) and Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium (NPK) fertilizers. Measures to ensure power availability during peak summer months, including exempting certain gas-based power plants and increasing coal supplies, were also reviewed. The government is also taking steps to curb hoarding and black marketing of essential goods and is pursuing diplomatic efforts to secure safe passage of vessels through critical routes like the Strait of Hormuz. The aim is to protect India's economic stability and the welfare of its people amidst the global uncertainty.
