The Nigerian Engineering Olympiad (NEO) has selected 30 innovation teams to advance to the regional phase of its national competition, aiming to transform academic research into commercial enterprises. This initiative, launched in November 2025, seeks to bridge the gap between theoretical engineering education and industrial application in Nigeria. Each of the 30 shortlisted teams will receive a N3 million grant for prototype development and technical mentorship, representing a N90 million investment. The competition will culminate in four finalists competing for a share of N100 million in seed funding. The NEO is a collaborative effort involving the Nigeria===Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board as sponsor, Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited and First Exploration & Petroleum Development Company as funders, the Nigerian Society of Engineers as technical partner, and Enactus Nigeria as implementing partner. The program addresses Nigeria's critical skills gap, with only 5% of engineering graduates considered 'industry-ready', and aims to stimulate youth-led entrepreneurship and reduce dependency on imported technologies.
