The long-term charter agreement between GAIL and Alpha Gas is expected to positively impact the natural gas and shipping markets by enhancing India's energy security and strengthening its LNG supply chain. This move could lead to increased stability in LNG prices and improved logistics efficiency for GAIL.
GAIL (India) Limited has entered into a long-term charter party agreement with Alpha Gas, a Greek shipping company, for the LNG carrier 'Energy Fidelity'. This agreement, executed through Pantheon Maritime Services, an affiliate of Alpha Gas, was signed in Athens. The 'Energy Fidelity' has a cargo capacity of 174,000 cubic meters and features advanced propulsion and fuel-efficiency technologies to reduce emissions. This charter is a key milestone for GAIL under India's 'Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047', aiming to bolster India's maritime infrastructure and energy supply chain capabilities. GAIL, India's leading natural gas company, will utilize this carrier to import LNG from various countries, including the US and Russia, to meet the nation's growing energy demand. This development is part of India's broader strategy to establish a robust LNG supply chain, as highlighted by Narendra Modi at India Energy Week 2026, and follows other recent agreements by GAIL with K Line and J M Baxi Marine Services for equity participation in ship-owning companies, and with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines for another LNG carrier.
