The India===Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved an investment of Rs 14,105.83 crore for the construction of the 1200 MW Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project on the Lohit river in Anjaw district of India===Arunachal Pradesh, India. The project, with an estimated completion period of 78 months, will be implemented through a joint venture between NTPC Limited===THDC India Limited and the Government of India===Arunachal Pradesh. It is expected to generate 4,852.95 million units of electricity annually, strengthening power supply in India===Arunachal Pradesh, supporting peak demand management, and contributing to balancing the national grid. The Government of India will provide significant budgetary support and financial assistance, and India===Arunachal Pradesh will receive 12% free power and an additional 1% for the Local Area Development Fund. The project is also anticipated to bring substantial infrastructure development and socio-economic benefits to the Namsai and Anjaw districts.
