A study conducted by Great Ormond Street Hospital has revealed that prescribing children with congenital hyperinsulinism (CHI) tablets instead of liquid Diazoxide could save the United Kingdom===National Health Service approximately £40,000 per patient annually. The research, involving 19 patients aged seven to 13, demonstrated that children successfully switched to tablets and often preferred them due to taste and convenience. Liquid Diazoxide costs £15.50 per 50mg, while tablets cost only £1.15 per 50mg. This change not only offers substantial financial benefits but also significantly improves the quality of life for patients like Jess Manktelow, who found the tablets easier to manage. Great Ormond Street Hospital plans to further assess the viability of this switch for children as young as four.
