The Federal Government of Nigeria, through its Nigeria===Federal Ministry of Education (Nigeria), has launched a nationwide Learner Identification Number (LIN) system. This initiative assigns a unique, permanent digital identity to every student, aiming to modernize Nigeria's education system. The LIN will improve record-keeping, support learning continuity, and strengthen education planning and intervention. Minister of Education Tunji Alausa stated that this reform aligns with President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on human capital development and technology in education. In its first phase, over 1.9 million candidates for the 2026 examinations by the West African Examinations Council and the National Examinations Council have received LINs. The system, built on the Digitised National Education Management Information System, is designed to enhance data management, reduce examination malpractice, prevent impersonation, and identify out-of-school children and dropouts. The next phase will expand the system to all public and private schools across Nigeria.
