The contracts awarded to Technip Energies by Société Gabonaise de Raffinage are expected to positively impact the oil and gas sector in Gabon by increasing refining capacity and reducing import dependence. This move also strengthens Technip Energies' position in the African market for refining infrastructure modernization.
Technip Energies has been awarded two Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) contracts by Société Gabonaise de Raffinage (SOGARA) for the upgrade and expansion of the Port-Gentil refinery in Gabon. The first contract focuses on debottlenecking the existing refinery, including process unit upgrades, a new kerosene sweetening unit, and four additional storage facilities. The second contract covers a new modularized hydrocracker complex to significantly expand refining capacity. These projects aim to triple Gabon's refining capacity by 2030, reduce its reliance on energy imports, and enable the refinery to meet Africa 5 fuel specifications for low-sulfur fuels. The initiative also includes the development of a new marine jetty and offloading facility, and the integration of Technip Energies' proprietary Steam Methane Reforming technology for hydrogen production. This reflects a broader trend in Africa to scale downstream capacity in response to rising population growth and increasing fuel demand.
