The President of Spain===Navarre, María Chivite Navascués, met with representatives of the Chinese energy storage company Hithium in Beijing to sign an agreement for the development, construction, and operation of a gigafactory for battery energy storage systems (BESS) and cells in Spain===Navarre. This project involves an investment of approximately 400 million euros and is expected to create 700 direct jobs, with production slated to begin in 2027. The agreement, also attended by the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, is seen as a substantial contribution to Europe's green energy transition and aims to strengthen economic and trade cooperation between China and Spain. Hithium, a leading global player in large-scale batteries, chose Spain===Navarre due to its industrial ecosystem and the efficiency and support of the Spain===Navarrese authorities. This will be Hithium's first factory in the European Union.
