India's government has approved the export of an additional 25 lakh metric tonnes of Wheat, bringing the total permitted exports to 50 lakh metric tonnes of Wheat and 10 lakh metric tonnes of Wheat products. This decision, made by the India===Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, follows a comprehensive review of current production, stock availability, and price trends. Wheat acreage for the Rabi 2026 season increased to approximately 334.17 lakh hectares, indicating a strong harvest. The India===Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare estimated Wheat production for 2025-26 at 1,202 LMT. The move aims to ensure remunerative returns for farmers, stabilize domestic prices, enhance market liquidity, and facilitate efficient stock management, all while safeguarding India's food security. Major destinations for Indian Wheat include Bangladesh, Nepal, Iraq, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman. This contrasts with India's previous ban on Wheat exports in May 2022 due to rising domestic prices and global surges caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
