Corewell Health Nurses Authorize Strike

Nurses at Corewell Health East, represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 2024, are engaged in a labor dispute demanding safe nurse-to-patient ratios, fair wages, affordable health insurance, and improved workplace safety. The 10,000 nurses voted by a 90 percent margin to authorize a strike in April 2026 if a fair contract is not reached. They have been holding practice pickets at various Corewell Health campuses in United States — Michigan, including Grosse Pointe, Farmington Hills, and Wayne, throughout early May 2026. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters has also filed several unfair labor practice charges against Corewell Health, alleging labor law violations and unilateral changes to bargaining unit positions. This follows an aggressive $1.7 million union-busting campaign by Corewell Health when the nurses joined the International Brotherhood of Teamsters in November 2024.
