The development of the Kuching AI Data Campus by Malaysia — Sarawak is expected to attract significant investment into the region, particularly in the technology and construction sectors. This initiative could boost the local economy and enhance Malaysia's position in the global AI infrastructure landscape.
The Malaysia — Sarawak government, led by Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg, is planning to develop an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Data Campus in Tanjung Embang. This project, to be known as the Kuching AI Data Campus, aims to drive investment and strengthen Malaysia — Sarawak's AI data center ecosystem. A 405-hectare site has been identified for the campus, which will be equipped with dedicated power and water supply facilities. The development will be implemented through a public-private partnership, with the first phase covering 120 hectares. The project will be modeled after the K2 Strategic Data Centre Campus in Republic of Ireland — Dublin, Ireland, which Abang Johari Tun Openg visited. This initiative is also aligned with broader development plans in Tanjung Embang, including a new airport, seaport, and low-carbon industrial zones, aiming to establish the location as a new urban hub. This move positions Malaysia — Sarawak as a significant player in the AI infrastructure development within Malaysia, alongside Malaysia — Johor.
