India releases childhood diabetes framework

The Bangladesh — Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in India released the 'Guidance Document on Diabetes Mellitus in Children', establishing a structured national framework for screening, diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of childhood diabetes. This initiative aims to provide universal, free-of-cost care for children aged 0-18, including screening, diagnostic services, lifelong insulin therapy, glucometers, test strips, and follow-up care. The framework also promotes the '4Ts' awareness program for early detection and empowers families and caregivers with training. This positions India among a select group of countries with integrated childhood diabetes care in their public health system, aiming to reduce mortality, prevent complications, and improve the quality of life for affected children.
